What you need to know about alcohol addiction

Loss of control due to alcoholism

This is the earliest and most important feature of addiction. Most people are indifferent to alcohol. For example, if invited to a wedding or party, the man drank 2-3 cups, got a little drunk, converted to juice or sparkling water and peacefully, on its own, moved on with their work. Under a different scenario, a situation develops in people prone to alcohol. He drank, loved it, drank more, and more and in the end it is the next day, and he is feeling bad and is ashamed.

Losing measure and control over the degree of drunkness, the patient is increasingly faced with the following symptoms:

Changes in behavior due to alcohol dependence

A drunk man is a completely different person. With time, the character of drinking changes. There appears irritability, discontent, striving to prove fellows that they are wrong, conflict with them. The man speaks more often when drunken about things he would not occur to talk about when sober. At this stage, often a person gets behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and crashes the car. What more occurs over a time are memory lapses.

Forming the need for alcohol

Regardless of the obvious negative consequences on request of the closest ones to stop taking alcohol within a person establishes the need to increasingly feel the pleasant effects of alcohol. The desire is forming, a psychological need for alcohol. In Russia, there is a saying: “If there is a wish, there will be a rise.” Indeed, no longer need to make a celebration or the banquet, all less importance is firm, the atmosphere, the place where a person drinks. A sample of the type of justification: “I’m stressed, no one understands me, you got me so upset.” Similar excuses are a mechanism of psychological protection, an attempt to shift blame to someone else. Alcoholism is a disease and therefore must be treated.

The change of personality

Alcohol, like any psychoactive substance, changes a person. If earlier people had plans, appreciate family, career, reputation, are engaged in sports, now it all seems silly and unnecessary. The main place in the system of values is beginning to acquire alcohol. Therefore is starting social degradation – loss of family, job, social status.

Forming physical addiction to alcohol

It is generally known that when a person takes a large amount of alcohol the next day in a series of sobering he/she feels unpleasant symptoms: nervousness, a sense of inner trembling, tremor, palpitations, nausea, dizziness, sweating. This is the so-called hangover. With age, these symptoms become more intense and people bear it harder, and they begin to look for a tool that would help them to cope with withdrawal syndrome. And if they drink more alcohol at some time it feels better. So they get to the regular use of alcohol when the man needs wine, beer or vodka just to feel “normal” and that there is no agony hangover. People can swear that they would not drink, but for a few hours will again run for alcohol. Withdrawal syndrome is very difficult and dangerous.

The consequences of chronic alcoholism

It is the so-called the third stage of alcohol addiction. Until that moment changes in the body become irreversible. Because of disturbed metabolism, nutrition, toxic effects of alcohol changes the appearance of a patient – the skin, the face, appears tremor, changing movements. Memory suffers, higher nervous activity leads to the disintegration of personality dementia. The internal organs – liver, blood vessels, heart, get also destroyed and sick days are sadly numbered.

Be sure that treating alcoholism can stop this tragic process, but the problem is that a very long time addict refuses treatment because they do not consider themselves sick.
